Weekend Website
Today’s article isn’t one of those that is going to appeal to the general population, but it’s still great nonetheless. The site is Floorplanner.com and it makes creating online floor plans simple and easy. If you have a room to design (or you wish you had a room to design), Floorplanner.com is definitely one design tool that you’ll want to use. Best of all, it’s free and easy to use. When I say easy, I mean easy. Their CEO, Jeroen Bekkers says it is “so easy a child could do it, so easy a grandmother could do it, and so enjoyable to use that both would actually want to.”
Background:
Based in Amsterdam, Suite 75 is the company that built Floorplanner. They used Ruby on Rails, and Adobe Flash to create it. At the beginning of June not long after they launched their beta, they already had 50,000 registered users. I’d say that’s pretty impressive! Besides the free basic option for registration, there’s also a basic PLUS account priced at $29 per year for the casual user. If you’re in real estate or the design business, there’s also an enterprise edition which would be suitable for around $75 per month.
If you’re not sure whether or not you’ll want to register for a free account, they do have a “Tri-it” option that will allow you to plan around with things before diving in head-first.

“Social aspect” of Floorplanner.com
Social is the way to go these days, and Floorplanner took that route. Once you’re done with your design, you can email it, export the image, create a link for it, or even create a widget to put on your blog so that your floor plan is easily available to share with others. This adds a whole new aspect to the service, and one that I think you’ll like.
Create your own project:
To create a new project, you’ll need to sign up for a free account. From there you’ll be able to name your project, and then determine whether you want the measurements in meters/centimeters, or feet/inches. You’ll also have the option of selecting whether or not the project is public and viewable by others, or semi-private and only viewed using a unique link. With the basic free plan, you’ll be allowed 1 floor plan that you can share with friends and family members.

Library
Their library of items includes categories like structural, doors & windows, living, bedroom, rugs, kitchen, bathroom, garden, office, misc, and party/events. As mentioned, there are many options within each category that you’re able to use to make your room/house just how you’d like it.
Wrapping it up
The best way to use Floorplanner.com is to start your own floor plan and play around with it. When I was creating my floor plan, the more I played around, the more familiar everything became. Even if you don’t have a floor plan to create for actual purposes, you still might enjoy it, I know I did!

This would be a great tool for women who love to have men move furniture to every conceivable spot in a room before putting it all back where it was to begin with!
