Notepad++I am a huge fan of the free (and open source) Notepad++ application as many of you probably know by this point. It just got even better today as the PortableApps.com developer created Notepad++ Portable. That’s right, now you can take all of your settings with you wherever you go, and you never have to worry about getting stuck with the built-in Windows Notepad!

For those of you who haven’t ventured to give Notepad++ a shot, here are just a handful of the great features it has to offer:

  • Syntax Highlighting and Syntax Folding (C, C++, HTML, ASP, Java, Pascal, CSS and more)
  • User Defined Syntax Highlighting
  • Auto-completion
  • Multi-Document
  • Regular Expression Search/Replace supported
  • Full Drag ‘N’ Drop supported
  • Zoom in and zoom out
  • Multi-Language environment supported
  • Brace and Indent guideline Highlighting
  • Macro recording and playback

This is going to be one of the applications I consider to be a must-have on my Flash drive, and if you want more great portable applications make sure you look over this article. Don’t forget to checkout the comments there as well for sweet app suggestions from our visitors.

Notepad++ was available as a portable version for some time now on SourceForge.

Actually, the other portable version writes to the registry on each PC and the MRU files list and explorer plugin directory aren’t portable. the PortableApps.com version solves all these issues.

Yeah, as “Dude” said I’m pretty sure that the version on SourceForge was just meant to run without installing it. It wasn’t truly a portable version though where it kept all of the files in a contained location.

Yeah, there are a lot of Notepad alternatives out there, but I think Notepad++ is the best. Glad you like it as much as I do!
