File Sharing Just got that much Better

DivShare I actually can’t believe this but file sharing just got a lot better. The new website that I found (thanks to Gizmodo) is called DivShare and it allows you to upload your files without limitations and without registration. There are already several sites that do something similar, like FileHo, so why is DivShare special?

  • Upload unlimited files
  • Serve unlimited downloads
  • Files stay online forever
  • No pop-up ads or spam
  • Incredibly fast, reliable servers
  • Add a link and logo to your download page
  • Easy image galleries and thumbnails
  • Nearly every file extension supported

I typically like registering at the file sharing sites because they keep track of the files that I upload. The user control panel is the best that I have seen with any file sharing service and having the ability to create photo galleries is awesome. Not only that but they let you co-brand the download page which means people will know that the file is related to your website.

In order to demonstrate the co-branded download page I tried to upload the Firefox image from yesterday…but like the other photo services it still had a problem. It sounded perfect because there was no photo size limit and they do not scale down the images, but after a few minutes I just got a blank white screen. I could have tried it in another browser (I was using Firefox), but I decided to make a portable version of the latest Firefox 3 nightly (currently pre-Alpha 2) which might give you something to tinker around with in addition to seeing what the download page looks like.

The download link will also show you the number of downloads, download size, and the date the file was uploaded. I don’t think it can get much more perfect than this?

For some reason I can’t register.

What happens when you try to register?

    Files stay online forever

By forever you mean until they go out of business. I’m sure they will either be sued out of business or won’t be able to afford all the bandwidth. I see that ads are coming in the future but can a few ads really pay for all that bandwidth?

There are a lot of sites that seem to have the money to stay in this type of business, so there has to be some kind of money opportunity behind it.

When I click the registration button after typing in my info, it just reloads the page. Maybe it sends the information somewhere, but I don’t get a message of any kind, nor a confirmation e-mail. Then I tried logging in with the e-mail and pass I registered with, and it didn’t sign in. Info was typed in, I clicked log in and then it just refreshed. No messages or anything either.

And could you mark my comment as not spam in the newest Windows Live Mail post please?

Maybe you should try registering in a different browser. I used Firefox 2 but it sounds like you are having some sort of cache problem, or something along those lines. Or their servers could be having troubles right now.

I just pulled your comment out of our spam filter, sorry about that.

This is pretty cool! It is a real easy to use file sharing site. Hopefully it survives. I was able to register just fine using Firefox 2.

Here is a picture of all of the Microsoft Corporation circa 1978.

a bit off-topic, but i’ve been keeping an eye on fileho. despite still proclaiming itself to be ad-free, i have seen an ad or two on the file download page. those seem to be gone now, though, and as i write this there is a paypal donate button on that page. i wonder if they’re still trying to figure out their business model?

Looks like they hired some kids, too. ;)

I haven’t seen any ads on FileHo but their control panel for managing previous uploads is very…well…lacking. They seem to be a company that is still trying to figure things out which is expected, but I prefer to see advertisements because that means they have planned for the future and expect to make some money.

In my opinion, DivShare is the best yet!

    Thanks Ryan!

I agree…one of my favorite features is how it pops up with the download for the user right away so that they don’t have to go hunting for a download link.

I did take notice on their blog that they will phase in advertisements.

Good to hear…as long as they’re not too in your face…the bills have to get paid somehow.

 :|  8O :) :? 8) :D   :P  ;) :o  :x :( :!: :?:
