Tweaking Firefox To Load Pages Faster

Everyone looks for ways that they can speed up their Web browsers using simple tweaks. Whether you are new to Firefox or are an advanced user this tweak is something everyone is able to do. The value that you enter in below, which I recommend entering “0″, will determine how long the browser will wait before it will start using the information it receives. By setting the value to “0″ the browser processes the information or Web Site immediately.

Here are the few steps you need to take to do this tweak:

  1. Open Firefox and go to the Address Bar. Type in about:config and then press Enter.
  2. Right Click in the page and select New -> Integer.
  3. In the box that pops up enter nglayout.initialpaint.delay and then press Enter.
  4. Now enter in a value of 0 and then press Enter.
  5. Restart Firefox.

That was painless now wasn’t it? I noticed that some pages would load faster after doing the tweak…YAY!

Is there some sort of catch here? Will another part of Firefox suffer/break as a result of applying this?

This is old. Came out about the same time as the about:config tweak craze came about. I checked mine just to make sure it was at 0 and it was at 1000! hmmmmmmmmmmm

I haven’t found any catches yet. A friend of mine just told me about it and it seems to be working good.

    And from: http://www.tweakguides.com/Firefox_9.html
“This setting determines how many milliseconds Firefox should wait before it starts to display the page contents. This brief delay allows Firefox to load and arrange the various page components as correctly as possible. The default is 250 milliseconds which isn’t very long, but you can try setting this to 0 to see if it improves the responsive feel of Firefox. However some users report faster overall page load times with the default value or even higher, so experiment to see which value suits your browsing habits.”
