Tweak Firefox 2.0's Session Restore Feature

I have received a few messages from people asking why the Session Restore in Firefox 2.0 is only set to restore after a crash. I am sure Mozilla is going to make this a full-featured session restore soon but in the mean time this tweak should quench some of you power-hungry Firefox users.

Below I explain the steps so that you can setup Firefox 2.0 to automatically restore your session after EVERY time you close and then open the browser, not just when the browser crashes. Here are the steps you need to take:

  1. Start Firefox.
  2. In the Address Bar type “about:config” and press Enter.
  3. Right-Click and select New->Boolean.
  4. A box requesting the Preference Name will popup and you should enter “browser.sessionstore.resume_session” (without the quotes). Press OK to continue.
  5. Select “True” from the box and press OK again.

That is all you have to do, the next time you restart Firefox you will see that all of your tabs were saved. If you want to disable this feature simply go back and set the value to false. Also, if you are afraid to try this on your existing installation you can try it using my Portable Firefox 2.0 Alpha 3. Enjoy!
